My brother took a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Jo’burg to visit his then-girlfriend’s family, and though our parents were worried sick, he came back with similar descriptions of a vibrant city. Thanks for sharing!

You are absolutely correct in saying that people use Johannesburg as an stop over place after taking flights to South Africa and then head towards other South African destinations. But it is also true that Joburg is one heck of a place with loads of tremendous attractions.

Before today, I didn’t even know of Johannesburg (call me ignorant).

But wow. those three pictures look stunning. It sounds amazing too. I want to travel all over the world in the future, and I’ve made a little note for Johannesburg. 🙂

Sophie, I remember having a similar reaction from my mother and girlfriend the night before flying to South Africa. First stop, Joburg. Second? Whatever would come.

I popped over with just email contacts, trying to spend the summer making a living as a Spanish translator and learning the destination “for free.”

The result? Almost 10 years later I am still in love with the country and proud to count many South Africans amongst my best friends.

There’s a lot more to Jozi than a safari hub, just visit the Apartheid Museum one morning and you’ll grow inside.
