I agree with one of the comments above, that there are now more and more destinations that are accessible for disabled people. Granted, still many places that need to be improved but I think generally this is something most tour operator, hotels etc are aware of and making the necessary changes to meet everyones needs.

I think our society is programmed to worry only about ourselves and we forget that some people don’t have that luxury and depend on others to help make their lives more enjoyable. It’s nice to hear that there are people who want to give that kind of help. Great post!

I know Choice hotels has rooms that are dedicated to physically-challenged guests. They are more accessible and have additional room to navigate. They have a summer promotion right now that gives you 1 night free if you purchase 2 nights with their rewards program. The nights do not have to be consecutive. Happy Travels!

Thanks so much for this information – my uncle is in a wheelchair and I know it will be music to his ears that he can still travel the world in his condition. Granted, the millions of times I’VE told him that won’t do it, but maybe hearing it from you just might!

Anyone who must move around in a wheelchair will tell you that it’s not the confines of their personal vehicle that makes them feel isolated and immobile; it’s the lack of ease in getting into and out of automobiles, airplanes, and other grander modes of transportation that contributes to their sense of restriction.

When I worked for an online travel agency before, we had lots of inquiries about rooms accessible to physically-challenged persons and there are times when some travelers get frustrated with hotels not having enough rooms for disabled. But more and more hotels and destinations are already making themselves for friendly to these types of travelers/guests.
