sultan omar ali safifuddin mosque in brunei maitravelsite

Oil rich Sultanate of Brunei is a country in Borneo home to one of the richest men in the world where Being Bandar Seri Begawan is its capital and pretty much only city. The mosque of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin was completed in 1958 and is a perfect example of modern Islamic architechture. We were allowed to walk in and learned that is is only for prayers, has columns made of marble and the main dome is covered in pure gold- speaking about wealth! It dominates the city’s landscape and is not to be missed when visitting the city!

What is the most impressive mosque you have visited? Where is it? Remember to share this picture/post!

This picture is amazing.Just looking at it feels like your in the inside the image. This is a real photography that turns a concept or idea into a photograph. Even though what is depicted in the photographs are real objects, the subject is strictly abstract

Modern Islamic architecture? Isn’t there some sort of requirement for their buildings, like christian rules suggest churches to be built in a certain way ? Anyway, it was an amazing sight seeing it :)

Of course there are, but but they are somewhat general. The way religious buildings are made has changed throughout history, regarding materials and architechtural design- a good compariosn can be the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris and the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Thanks for dropping by Ivo!

Now, Brunei is the only country in this region that I have NOT visited! After reading this, I should start planning for a trip there. Thanks.
