You have so many options to choose! Zakynthos is a big island with organised tourism and you can find whatever you want. With a low budget about 300euros you can stay, eat and drink for a week! Be carefull the season that you will travel, because July and August there is high season and the prices is up! I suggest cheap hotels in Zakynthos, but not in the town! You can find some kilometers away from Zante town many accommodation and cheap prices! Don’t forget gyros! Guros is always cheap!!! 🙂

tony i have been there in 2009 really nice island, saw a loggerhead turtle although quite rare now, also saw a pod of wild dolphins. saw the shipwreck from above on a jeep safari, well worth the trip as you see moer that way. the shipwreck is actually a poor mess apparently, and the beaches get very packed as it is only accesible by boat. I stayed in Laganas, very lively at night as used by 18-30′s but actually still family friendly and the sea is like having a bath and is very shallow. go enjoy it

well the jeep safari also goes many farm tracks so you see bits you wouldn't normally, we were taken to the highest point on the island too, not accesible by normal road, so few tourist get here. where you can see next island, (name escapes me at the moment) where 'the Mandolin' was set and filmed. The Airport is very close to Laganas our hotel was ten minutes drive. but you don't get noise at night from the flights as they are restricted so no disturbance is caused to the turtles breeding.

I’d never heard of Zante before, but it’s on my list now – those pictures are stunning! I also love the idea of a place where the best sites are only accessible by boat – hopefully that means less tourists!

Yet if you stay in hostels or homestays and look around when ready to eat instead of eating in fine restaurants, you can enjoy your time on 40 € /day, including food , lodgiing and some public transportation. Oohh and don't skip those gyros!
