Paradise Under the Stars: Noumea at Night

New Caledonia is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the South Pacific, and its capital, Nouméa, is an exciting and vibrant city. With great restaurants, buzzing nightclubs and cultural activities, there is lots to do here to make your nights in Nouméa memorable.

Enjoy the French Vibe

Many people stop off in Nouméa as part of a cruise like the ones found at sites like cruisesalefinder.com.au, and time in the city is therefore often limited. As a French special collectivity, New Caledonia is often popular for its combination of tropical scenery and French culture, and many visitors want to use their time to discover the French aspects of the city.

A good place to start is in one of the many restaurants in Nouméa, which serve up a wide range of French cuisine. However, the nighttime attractions of Nouméa go well beyond the restaurants. With bars, nightclubs, theatres and casinos, you’ll find plenty to do here to keep you busy.

Bars & Nightclubs

Many visitors to New Caledonia want to enjoy a night on the town in Nouméa, and there are plenty of options here. The warm nights and coastal establishments are the perfect combination for staying out late and enjoying the buzzing atmosphere. Baie des Citrons and L’Anse Vata are the most popular nightspots, so head to these first. Many bars and nightclubs are located next to the beach, most of which provide stunning views and a relaxing vibe, and many will have a happy hour at some point in the evening.

La Bodega del Mar on Anse Vata is one of the most popular bars in Nouméa. Head here early to enjoy a drink and some delicious tapas, and watch the sun setting as you chill out. You will often be able to enjoy some live music as well.

L’Etrave boasts a great ocean view, and it is a good place to head for an early evening drink. Another good place for an early drink is Les 3 Brasseurs in Baie des Citrons, where you will be able to enjoy a pleasant view over the bay.

For nightclubs, you could head to Cort’o Maltese at Anse Vata, Modus Vivendi Lounge, where you can dance the night away into the early hours, or Flex Bar, which is the place to go for electro and house music.

Theatres

If you would rather do a more cultural activity, you have a couple of excellent theatres to choose from. Théâtre de l’île, which you will find on Avenue James Cook, is one of the best theatres in Nouville. Slightly smaller is Théâtre de Poche, which is located on Boulevard Extérieur, but you will also find some good performances here, so find out what is showing when you arrive in Nouméa.

Casinos

You also have a choice of casinos in Nouméa if you would want to enjoy a flutter. Grand Casino is located at Le Méridien Hotel in the centre of the tourist area, and dress code is formal for the table games. Casino Royal is found at Le Surf Hotel, and dress code is smart casual. Remember to take your passport to be granted entry to the casinos.
