Swimming With Sharks in Oahu, Hawaii (Video)

Sharks are predators that most people try to avoid in a lifetime and by any means, but as I shared some time ago in a previous article about our shark swim tour it’s an experience we were looking forward to and were able to enjoy with Hawaii Shark Encounters, one of the leading companies in Oahu for tours of this kind.

This time however you’re going to be able to watch our experience through this video, perhaps the one I’ve enjoyed most making and probably the best one I’ve also created so far. While watching it, you might want to keep in mind the following interesting facts about sharks:

  • Shark comes from the mayan world Xoc which means fish.
  • Sharks can live up to 30 years.
  • The largest shark is the whale shark which is up to 40 feet long.
  • Sharks have 5 to 15 rows of teeth in each jaw.
  • Sharks may have up to 3000 teeth at one time, and some species replace a row with new teeth every week
  • There are more than 360 described species of sharks.
  • The largest whale shark registered weight was 47300 lb or 21.5 tonnes.

And now enjoy the video! (if you’re getting this post via email you can watch the video by clicking here)

Have you ever swum with sharks? Where at? If not, is it something you’d dare to do? What other wildlife encounter tours have you enjoyed? Share your thoughts and experiences with us in the comments section below, and this post too if you  liked it!

  1. That is very brave and I’m sure you had a thrilling and fun experience. I’d be lying if I say that I’d love to try that someday. I think I’ll just stay in shallow waters..lol

    1. They actually did Ayngelina, but not too much. About half a bucket of fish remains were thrown into the water while we approached the spot, and that attracted enough sharks to see them. Why does this conflict you?

      1. I can’t speak for Ayngelina but feeding any wild animal can change its regular feeding habits, but in this case there is an added worry: that sharks may come to associate humans with food, putting other humans at added risk. But having said that, it does look amazing!

        1. What you say is probably true, and this was exposed in South Africa recently after a deadly shark attack in Cape Town. However there is no other effective way to draw shark’s attention if it’s what you want… Thanks for dropping by Mark!

  2. Swimming with sharks?? Oh no! That is horrible, I never ever tried to swum with them. You are such a brave girl and I rather do not swim in the sea in a year if there are sharks.. OMG!

    1. Good question. I suppose you can, didn’t ask about it, but I assume you´d have to sign some paper assuming all responsibility.

  3. Nice bits of information there. What can I say about the video! So thrilling & exciting. Loved that so much. Great post!Very informative. Thanks so much.
