Visiting Florida from the UK

Florida is home to the bluest of seas, year-round sunshine and beautiful beaches, making it an attractive vacation destination. Florida is a place where the whole family can enjoy themselves, with different cultural attractions, theme parks, great shopping, and the natural beauty it has to offer. Florida is a very diverse place, with people from all over the world, and, therefore, has a lot of mixed cultures you can enjoy. Not only will you encounter the American culture, but also some Europeans and Latino, with different events and attractions that will allow you to live the experience to the fullest.

The best way to get to Florida from Europe is by airplane. A flight to Florida from the UK takes roughly nine hours. Once you have landed in one of Florida’s major airports, you can easily reach any of the state’s major cities; there are shuttles to Orlando, taxis to Miami, and buses to Tampa, among many other options. Climate in Florida is somewhat similar to that in the summer of the  United Kingdom, with temperatures of about 30º Celsius (around mid-80s ºF), however, its tropical weather keeps Florida from the low temperatures sometimes seen in England or Scotland. Summers in Florida are very warm and humid, though frequently, brief rain showers provide a refreshing break.

The currency in Florida is the dollar, which is around 0.65 British Pound. You can exchange currency at most major airports, banks, private exchange offices (such as American Express or Thomas Cook), and at some hotels. Traveller cheques are still the safest way to travel with large amounts of money and they are accepted at most locations. However, if you don’t want to travel with large amounts of money you can use credit cards, or have money wired to a Florida bank. Credit cards are widely accepted by hotels, shops, restaurants and car hire companies.

The best and most efficient way to travel within Florida is by rental car and, while not required, and International Driving Permit (IDP) is inexpensive and useful to have for identification purposes. However, this permit must be issued by your own country before you depart. The IDP does not substitute your regular driving license, therefore you should carry both if you are planning on driving.

If you are traveling with family, there theme parks that you cannot miss, such as LEGOLAND Florida Resort, which is a theme and water park with over 50 rides, shows and attractions for the whole family located in Winter Haven, Florida, or Walt Disney World Resort, in Orlando, Florida, or even the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is also in Orlando and is a huge hit with both, kids and teens. Both, LEGOLAND and Disneyland offer hotel service inside, so you can make the most of this experience without having to think about transport. Aside from parks, Florida has a lot to more to offer, such as fishing, places such as They Canyons Zip Line & Canopy Tours that offer over a mile of zipline course, horseback riding, among many other things. The Ringling Sarasota includes the Museum of Art, the Ca’ d’Zan mansion, the 18th-century Historic Asolo Theater, Circus Museum, and Bayfort Gardens. As you can see, Florida has many options, so no matter what it is that you like, you will be able to find it in Florida.

Having looked at the different options for visiting Florida from the UK, I have found a deal of 7 nights for £383 (around $587) including flights with Holiday Genie. A great way to discover Florida don’t you think?
