My First Aquathlon/ Duathlon Ever (Video)

Last Friday I got a text message from a friend telling me that the following day there was an aquathlon in a nearby town that included a 1.6km run followed by a 1.6 km swim followed by another 1.6 km run. It was free, there were some simple prizes for the winners, and the main idea behind it was just to have some fun; yeah, some people actually do enjoy these kinds of events while a greater majority may call it a painful way of spending a Saturday morning.

Looking back into my week I realized that I had not done any exercise at all since the previous Saturday: the ocean had been flat (thus no surfing) the past few days and I had been really busy with work and other commitments that I hadn’t even allowed met he chance to go for a jog. So true to my style I did the same thing I did when I ran with the best trail runners in the world: I participated without having trained.

The result? I did much better than expected! I finished 9th overall (although there were only 24 participants) and I lost two places in the last 400 m run. After receiving the message the night before I decided to go for a 30 min run to warm up my legs, and this proved to be a mistake as they were tired the following day during the race. What bothered my most was my feet sinking into the soft sand when softly hit the shore…that really became a burden. Anyhow, here is a video of the event… I hope you like it!

If you’re reading this post via Feedburner or email subscription the video might not be appearing for you. If this is your case this is the Youtube link to my first aquathlon video.

Have you ever participated in an event like this, or some sort of endurance race? What was it, and how did you do? Share your thoughts in the comments section below, and this post too if you liked it!

    1. It was cool to know that I have more endurance than what I thought! There is a 3.8km swim in 2 weeks, might sign up if I’m not traveling… 🙂
