7 Best Hotels for Adults in Puerto Vallarta

It’s hard to think of a better destination for a romantic getaway than Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta. Arguably the country’s second most popular resort city, Puerto Vallarta has something for everyone, especially adults keen on spending some quality time with their loved one. While most of Puerto Vallarta's hotels are family oriented, it also has a good selection of hotels for adults only.

This is a selection of what I deem to be Puerto Vallarta’s best all-inclusive resorts for adults only. I'm based in Puerto Vallarta, know most of the hotels in town and have chosen these resorts because they all specialize in providing accommodation for couples and adults, especially those on honeymoons and marking anniversaries. I’ve also taken particular care to select resorts that represent the diversity of Puerto Vallarta. Some are located right in the middle of the action, with good access to the city center and its pounding nightlife. Others are more discrete, serving couples looking for some peace and privacy. Whatever you’re after, one (or more!) of these resorts should have what you need.

Secrets Puerto Vallarta

Located just a few minutes by foot from El Malecon, Secrets Puerto Vallarta is aimed squarely at couples looking for a glamorous getaway. Expect full spa services, ocean views and a pretty impressive pool area. They also have a great mix of on-site restaurants, serving up everything from Mexican to French, along with Asian.

In other words, this is where to come for pure relaxation with your loved one. It’s glitzy, decadent and totally designed for couples who want luxury combined with privacy and seclusion. In particular, it’s worth checking out their honeymoon and anniversary deals. They typically include a complementary bottle of bubbly on arrival, breakfast in bed and discounts on spa facilities. Not bad, right?

Secrets also has a solid location. It’s right on the beach, making it perfect for anyone wanting to split their time between the sand and pool. On the other hand, the city center is about a kilometer away, and you’ll have to travel a bit to reach the old town.

Hotel Mousai

Hotel Mousai prides itself on being Puerto Vallarta’s first AAA five diamond rated adults only hotel. Indeed, their suites are pretty hard to beat, with crisp modern design and a surprising amount of space. The en-suites in particular are gorgeous.

Like Secrets, Mousai is primarily aimed at couples looking for the most decadent escape possible, with a particular focus on newly weds. Their spa services are top notch, their staff are brilliant.

Their location gives Secrets a run for its money, with the beach just minutes from your room. You have to check out the rooftop cocktail bar and pool; the views are some of the best anywhere in Puerto Vallarta.

Also, like Secrets, Mousai also offers some generous specials for honeymooners and anniversaries. Then there’s Mousai’s all-inclusive package, which is basically the epitome of pure luxury. Why, you may ask? Well, let me put it this way: it can include your own, personal butler. Enough said, right?

Along with its great specials, Mousai also does some great wedding packages. In one fell swoop, you can have the wedding planned, a reception ready, and unforgettable accommodation for guests. It’s not a bad deal, especially for anyone who just doesn’t want any stress.

Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills

The Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills has spacious, breezy rooms with mountain views. It seems to be generally aimed at couples looking for some peace and quiet, though they do offer some of the usual deals for honeymooners and anniversaries. What really marks Sirenis is its sense of seclusion. This resort is located slightly out of the center of the action, in a small valley outside the heart of Puerto Vallarta. To enter, you’ll find yourself meandering down a winding path through overflowing greenery, into this little mountain getaway. Inside, you’ll find modern rooms with a great amount of space, along with two restaurants. There’s some good all inclusive packages to be had here, which cover the room, food and all alcohol. As you’d expect, there’s full spa services, and options for excursions. The infinity pools are also highlights of the resort.

Overall, the biggest dilemma for anyone looking at staying at Sirenis is the location. As mentioned, this resort is somewhat out of the action. This is great for anyone eager for some seclusion, but it means you’ll have to take their shuttle bus to the beaches, or to the city center. Taxis are also available, though the shuttles are pretty frequent.

Royal Suites Punta de Mita

hotel adults puerto vallarta

With a big focus on personalized experiences, Royal Suites Punta de Mita is a good choice for couples who don’t like being put in boxes. The staff are extremely friendly, and everybody leaves raving about the great service. The location is also pretty good, located right on the beach. They actually have around 300 meters of private beach, surrounded by forest. The beach is a little rocky, but has great surf (interested in surf lessons?) . There's a longer beach stretch at the adjacent Palladium Hotel which you'll have access to (this hotel is not adults only thought).

They also have an impressive line up of facilities. Along with the typical spa and pool, they also boast tennis courts, nightly entertainment, and even a mini zoo. They’ve got both crocodiles and turtles on site as well. Basically, there’s enough bells and whistles here to keep anyone and everyone entertained throughout the trip. The restaurants also serve good food at a standard you’d expect for the price. Most visitors tend to stay as part of an all inclusive package, which can be a bit of a bargain (we got one during our stay).

Crown Paradise Resort

The last resort on our list is very much a resort for resort lovers. That is to say, the Crown Paradise follows a much more conventional formula than some of the others on the list. It might not have the bells and whistles (and the zoo) of Punta de Mita, or the seclusion of Sirenis. Instead, it focuses on doing one thing, and doing it well: providing high quality, luxury accommodation. Like the other resorts on the list, the Crown Paradise offers great deals on all inclusive packages, spa facilities and a massive pool area. The Crown Paradise is widely praised as among Puerto Vallarta’s best kept resorts, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a speck of dust anywhere. The on site restaurants likewise have garnered rave reviews, and the staff are great. The location works well, with a good, central location. Unfortunately, there’s no ocean view though.

Which One Do I Recommend?

While all of these hotels in Puerto Vallarta are for adults only, their location and style cater to different travelers. These are my recommendations based on different travel styles:

  • Best hotel adults only to get away from it all: Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills
  • Best hotel for adults near Puerto Vallarta town: Secrets Resort Puerto Vallarta
  • Best hotel for adults looking for an active holiday: Royal Suites Punta Mita
  • Best luxury hotel for adults with views: Hotel Mousai
  • Best adults only hotel with a Mexican atmosphere: Crown Paraside Resort
