This layout may ring a bell, as it did to me. Yup, it was initially a Doubletree by Hilton!

Overview

If you have any last minute surprises at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, then there’s a good chance you’ll end up at the Sheraton Suites Chicago O'Hare. As one of the closest hotels to the airport, over the years the Sheraton Suites has garnered a reputation as the place to crash for weary business-class travelers, conference-goers and vacation-makers looking for a convenient location. Over the years though, the Sheraton Suites has started to show its age, and there have been some complaints in recent years of rickety furniture and restless plumbing. The good news is that the hotel is in the process of a huge renovation that will change the furniture and re-design the bathrooms in full. The staff  works hard to accommodate guests, and the on-site restaurant serves up some of the best food in the area.

Accommodation

Sheraton Suites offers five different room types, ranging from single bed suites to their sprawling presidential suites. All rooms are noticeably spacious, with the smallest being 515 by 46 square feet.  The rooms also come with air conditioning, tea and coffee making services, a safe, microwave and mini-fridge. As you’d expect, rooms also have cable TV, along with standard bathroom amenities. Speaking of bathrooms, some guests have complained in recent years of inconsistent or otherwise unsatisfactory hot water. Luckily, staff are usually happy to accommodate this, such as arranging an alternative room. This issue is likely to soon be an issue of the past, as at the time of writing the hotel was undergoing a partial renovation. Specifically, the Sheraton Suites was redesigning all their guestroom bathrooms in late 2018/early 2019. Until these renovations are complete, some rooms may not be available, and a few guests have complained of noise during business hours. These disruptions are expected to be temporary, however, and staff appear more than willing to make alternative arrangements in cases of service disruptions.

There's plenty of space!

Rooms are functional, and while they don't have many details this actually comes in handy when traveling with little ones. And as I mentioned before there's tons of space!

Other Facilities/Services

As previously mentioned, arguably the Sheraton Suites’ biggest draw-card is its free airport transfer along with the spacious rooms. Anytime of day or night, their van is available for shuttling guests between the hotel and any terminal at the O’Hare International Airport. The trip is only around five minutes, but saves the hassle of arranging an Uber or cab.

Along with the shuttle service, Sheraton Suites also has a good array of standard mid-range amenities. The on-site restaurant offers reasonable meals, including buffet and full American breakfasts starting at US$18. They also have a well-priced room service menu. While these two options will likely satisfy most guests, there’s a McDonald’s and T.G.I. Friday’s within walking distance.

There's fruit and some bakery as well!

One other drawback is the noticeable lack of an on-site convenience store. In major locations such as Chicago, it’s increasingly becoming standard practice for major hotels to provide some kind of on-site store for basic necessities (good news again: they are going to expand the current one to accommodate guests who need it). While the Sheraton Suites does have a small shop near the lobby, it mostly only sells souvenirs, and lacks basic items you’d expect such as toiletries. Luckily, if you have forgotten your toothbrush, power adapter or other minor travel item,  the staff are extremely helpful. The concierge desk apparently often has a small supply of odds-and-ends, and is happy to distribute basics like toothpaste to guests.

Other facilities and services include:

Car rental

Safety deposit

Daily house keeping

Room service

Newspapers

Fitness center

Myrick’s on-site American restaurant

Please note the Sheraton Suites also offers mobility access rooms.

Surroundings

The Sheraton Suites are located in Rosemont, about five minutes away from the O’Hare International Airport. The area is relatively quiet for Chicago, but there are a few notable attractions nearby. The most significant is the Allstate Arena, which is about two blocks down from the hotel. The arena is home to the Chicago Wolves.

Further down the road, the large Donald E. Stephens Convention Center is around 2 miles from the Sheraton Suites. The hotel itself regularly caters for guests visiting Chicago for conferences at the convention center due to its proximity. Another major convention facility, the United Center, is about 15 minutes away by car.

In terms of nearby entertainment, the surrounding area has a few options up its sleeve. About 1 mile away is the Rivers Casino, while a little further down you’ll find Fashion Outlets of Chicago. The latter is a two level outlet mall that specializes in designer goods. Another major shopping center, the Woodfield Mall, is about 10 minutes away by car. Finally, the Soldier Field stadium and event center is around 20 minutes away, depending on traffic.

Back near the hotel, Zanies Comedy Club is within walking distance, and has regular entertainment that’s generally family-friendly. Nearby, the Kings bowling alley has 20 lanes, two bars and billiards tables. For something less strenuous, the historic Pickwick Theater is just over 2 miles from the hotel, and is worth a visit just to check out the early 20th Century Art Deco architecture. Finally, for the more adventurous, the iFLY Indoor Skydiving center can be found 2.5 miles from the hotel.
