Things to Do in Dubai When You’re Short on Time

Dubai is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Situated in the desert of the United Arab Emirates, the city is steeped in history, yet famous for its modern opulence, and has become the playground of choice for tourists from all over the world. Dubai is a typical stopover for many tourists en route to other countries, but there are plenty of things to do while you’re there, even when you’re short on time.

Shop!

No, this isn’t the most original activity that springs to mind, but let’s face it, everyone knows Dubai is the shopping capital of the world. You’ll be spoilt for choice being surrounded by a multitude of shopping centres and markets, and won’t have to travel far and wide looking for places to shop. If you’re after some luxurious shopping, try Deira City Centre, or Mall of Emirates. If you’re in Dubai in January, you’ll be right in the middle of their annual shopping festivals – even better! And always barter with the salesperson – they expect it from you!

Hit the beach!

You guessed it – Dubai boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. They’re famous for pure white sand and deep blue water. There’s no way you’ll tire from lounging at the beach, but don’t lose track of time or you’ll miss out on other great activities!

Head to the Dunes

Definitely a fun option and a must-do for an experience you might not get elsewhere. Hire an SUV (specially manufactured for this terrain) that comes complete with a trained driver, and squeal with delight on this exhilarating ride through the desert. A gourmet dinner is included in this package – a wonderful way to end the day!

Go up, up and away in a hot air balloon

A treat for your eyes, the views are spectacular and unlike anywhere else. If you think Dubai at ground level is impressive enough, wait till you see the view from above! See clearly where the tropical landscape ends and the harsh desert begins.

Play a round of golf

Golf isn’t something that would normally pop up on a list of things to do here, but if you’re a golf fanatic, why not add Dubai to the list of places you’ve hit a round? The grass is surprisingly lush for a city like this, and the course is world-class. Perhaps try something outlandish and play a round of sand golf. Now that’s something to boast about!

Wet and Wild Wadi!

Wild Wadi far surpasses what is offered by your run-of-the-mill theme park. Not only are there many exhilarating rides to choose from, but you will be greeted with actual waves you can surf on! A quick afternoon trip is ideal for all members of your family, just perfect if you’re visiting Dubai with children.

Cruise down the creek

A creek runs right through Dubai and is mostly responsible for the city’s exponential growth. Unwind after the excitement of the day by enjoying a slow glide down the creek while eating a scrumptious gourmet dinner.
